“If we don’t fix future urban development policy issues; if we lack access to new ideas and their implementation; if we deny that the biggest killer is air quality, and that water utilization, food and fiber production, energy resource consumption, mobility, structures and waste handling are critical for sustaining urban and natural environments, we are doomed.

Unfortunately the ultimate control of urban growth and change is as much a public policy issue as it is an urban settlement and scientific issue. Our problem is that we are all involved with these policy issues in building a better urban environment. The paradox is that we all do not have insight to envision this common future in which to live happily and efficiently together.”
